Data transmission over optical communication lines
Abstract
The present work sets forth theory in the transmission of wide-band analog signals along an optical channel. Distortion of the modulating signals due to external and internal modulation of laser radiation is thoroughly analyzed. The effect of specific characteristics of the optical range on noise stability in the reception of analog signals is determined. This includes the effect of the presence of a noisy optical carrier, inner noises of the photoreceivers, the degree of coherence of the radiation, and atmospheric fluctuations. The noise stability of pulsed and digital methods of transmitting analog signals is studied.
