New analytical concepts in ultrasonic angle beam analysis
Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to present two new concepts for examining wave propagation characteristics in ultrasonic angle beam analysis. These concepts include velocity profile modeling and the use of envelope theory for solving complex angle beam wave profiling problems. Topics discussed include analysis of an angle beam of plane uniform pressure in a homogeneous isotropic medium; angle beam analysis in homogeneous anisotropic media with an interpretation of Snell's law in these media; and angle beam analysis for either curved wave front or curved test objects. Sample problems are also presented.
