Introduction to the statistical theory of radio wave polarization
Abstract
Chief aspects of the statistical theory of partially polarized radio waves and its practical application are studied. A generalized probability model of a partially polarized signal and a variation of it for the most interesting applications are given. Calculation formulas and much graphical information are given concerning the distribution laws, average values, dispersion, and average number of overshoots of polarization parameters. Detection and discrimination of polarized signals with a background of partially polarized normal noise are examined.
