Collection of problems in the dynamics of a point in a central force field
Abstract
The present work constitutes a selection of problems in the dynamics of a material point under the influence of a central gravitational attractive force, and in particular, in the elementary dynamics of space flight. The basic principles are set forth in an indirect manner on the basis of about 200 specific problems with worked out and explained solutions. The topics covered include the dynamic characteristics of gravitational force, Kepler's laws, the integral of areas, Binet's formulas for central forces, energy balance and velocity of motion along a space trajectory, time of motion along a space trajectory, conditions for an elliptic trajectory, orbit transfer, the sphere of action, the third cosmic velocity (velocity for a body to escape the solar system along a parabolic path), the twobody problem, and the generalization of Kepler's second law.
