An electrical method for studying thyristor turn-on action
Abstract
This paper deals with an electrical method for studying the thyristor conducting area after switching. The experimental procedure for obtaining the on state J(V) and switching characteristics is explained. The experimental results presented show the influence of some structure parameters, temperature and electrical bias conditions. These results also show that at high current density, spreading velocity of the on-state area is nearly constant, and independent of the carried current density. Taking into account the temperature variations, and consequently, of current density in the on-area do not significantly change the results obtained. The method is so very easy to apply and useful to help the characterization of real structures under the same operating conditions that in power application circuits.
