Plasma on the earth and in outer space
Abstract
The basic concepts concerning plasma are outlined along with the fundamental laws and equations describing the behavior of plasma in electric and magnetic fields. Particular attention is given to the problem of controlled thermonuclear reactions and synthesis, and to applied magnetohydrodynamics as regards magnetohydrodynamic generators and pumps. The discussion also covers the origin and structure of the geomagnetic field and plasma effects in near and outer space, especially geomagnetic storms and polar auroras. Modern concepts are presented about young, old, and dying stars, along with new evidence on such cosmic sources of radio emission and IR radiation as radio galaxies, quasars, and pulsars.
