Viscosity and density of BaO/B 2O 3/BaF 2 fluxes and solutions
Abstract
Viscosity, density, expansion coefficient and surface tension data are reported for fluxes in the system (0.59- x) BaO·0.41 B 2O 3· x BaF 2 with 0 < x < 0.24 and for solutions in these fluxes and barium borates of Y 3Al 5O 12, Y 3Fe 5O 12 and BaTiO 3. These results are interpreted in terms of the hard sphere model and the hard sphere diameter is found to decrease with fluoride addition and to be higher in solutions than in pure fluxes. Only fair agreement is obtained between hard sphere diameters obtained respectively from viscosity and from the thermodynamic properties.
