Comsat General domestic communications satellite
Abstract
The Comsat General domestic communications satellite is being designed and manufactured for U.S. domestic telephone traffic. The continental U.S. and offshore service areas are illustrated. The communications transponder configuration and performance are described. A block diagram showing the essential units of the transponders is presented, and functional parameters of these units are discussed. The spot beam antennas and polarization gratings are described. The following subsystems are also reviewed: centimeter wave beacons, telemetry and command, despin control, electrical power, and propulsion and orientation.
