The Kinematics and Ages of Stars in Gliese's Catalogue
Abstract
Gliese's catalog is the most complete collection of stars within 20 pc. There are, however, aspects of bias due to selection effects. The catalog is, therefore, not fully representative for all the nearby stars. Attention is given to the luminosity function, age groups in the color-magnitude diagram, questions of age classification according to the Ca II emission, and aspects of vertex deviation. Representative common nearby stars are discussed.
