Stochastic instability and the substantiation of the statistical mechanical model of turbulent diffusion
Abstract
An analysis is conducted of the conditions which have to be satisfied for a description of the process of turbulent diffusion by the methods of statistical mechanics. Ergodicity and mixing are considered and the criterion of system instability is introduced. The characteristics of a stochasticity criterion are also discussed, taking into account the conditions required for satisfying it. The model of interaction adopted in the investigation represents one of the simplest models for which the turbulent diffusion of particles can be described by methods of unequilibrium statistical mechanics.
