Limited scanning arrays and hybrids
Abstract
Limited scan or limited field-of-view (LFOV) antennas, using hybrid array-reflector configurations, are quite cost effective for systems with scan angles less than plus or minus 10 degrees. Successful hybrid systems include the TPN-19 PAR, Non-tactical PAR, Agiltrac/Multiple-Target Instrumentation Radar (MIR), and a Dual Frequency Antenna. Hybrids can be either single reflector-arrays or dual reflector-arrays. Single reflector-arrays require an oversized reflector and the size of the illuminated area on the reflector may vary with scan width. While dual reflector-arrays do not need oversized main reflectors, they do require moderate sized subreflectors. The successful hybrid systems are described and an experimental dual lens-array antenna is mentioned.
