Vibrational energy distribution in CO 2+ (A 2Π u ions produced by collisions of H 2+ and He + ions with CO 2
Abstract
The relative populations of vibrational levels in the A 2Π u state of CO 2+ were derived from measured band intensities of the CO 2+A 2Πu → X 2Πg emission system excited by charge transfer collisions of 100-5000 eV H 2+ and He + ions with CO 2. At relative laboratory velocities above 4 X 10 7 cm/sec the vibrational energy distribution was independent of velocity, but differed from that obtained by photoelectron spectroscopy. At velocities below 4 X 10 7 cm/sec the relative populations of low vibrational states increased monotonically with decreasing projectile ion velocity.
