Infrared Photometry of SS Cygni and RX Andromedae Near Maximum
Abstract
infrared measurements of two dwarf novae reveal that the observed energy distribution Fx changes from an approximately 1 /X2 dependence toward a 1 7X4 dependence for larger X at about 1.25 . This change of the X dependence leads to a n 7 X 10i3 . The observations of SS Cyg at maximum light from the soft X-ray to the infrared may be fitted by a thermal bremsstrahlung component of 4 X 10 K, which contributes about 80 percent of the light in the visual region, plus a blackbody component of 30,000 K. The bremsstrahlung component is attributed to a disk around a white dwarf. Subject headings: binaries - dwarf novae - infrared
