The Intensity Distribution of Diffuse Galactic Hα Emission

A contour map of spatially diffuse, galactic Ha emission has been constructed from Fabry-Perot observations in over 300 directions between galactic longitudes 0 and 240 and galactic latitudes -50 to +30 . The map, with a limiting emission measure of less than 4 pc, presents a new, large-scale view of the distributed, ionized component of the interstellar medium within about 2 kpc of the Sun.
