X-Ray Observations of the Supernova Remnant IC 443

Observations by OSO-7 positively identify IC 443 as a source of X-rays at energies of 1-10 keV. Spectral data are fitted equally well by a steep power law or by thermal bremsstrahlung at T = 17 x 106 K. This temperature and the shock-wave model lead to an age of 3400 years for IC 443, much younger than previous estimates. S#ject headings: supernova remnants - X-ray sources
