A Blue Galactic Nucleus with a Featureless Spectrum
Abstract
The galaxy Markarian 501 is found to have a bright blue nucleus with colors very similar to those of the Seyfert galaxy NGC 1275. The spectrum of the nucleus of Markarian 501 appears featureless, however, so it may be related to objects such as BL Lacertae which have featureless, non thermal spectra. Markarian 501 is within 3' of the listed position of the radio source 4C 39.49. Sitbject headings: galactic nuclei - radio sources - Seyfert galaxies
