High-resolution spectra of cool stars in the 10- and 20-micron regions.
Abstract
The spectra of two carbon stars, IRC +10216 and IRC +30219 (CIT 6), and of three oxygenrich stars, VY CMa, a Ori, and W Hya, are presented with 2 resolution. The carbon stars show an emission band attributable to circumstellar particles of silicon carbide. VY CMa and a Ori have excess emission at both 10 and 20 , characteristic of circumstellar silicate particles: However, other unidentified particles may be present in both types of star. No atomic or molecular features are seen. Subject headings: carbon stars - late-type stars - spectra, infrared - circumstellar shells
