Jupiter: Identification of ethane and acetylene
Abstract
Spectra of 1.3 cm-i resolution of Jupiter have been obtained in the 10-micron window. Ethane and acetylene have been identified near 800 . The molecular lines appear in emission. Estimated mixing ratios are 4 X 10- and 8 X t0 , respectively. Brightness temperatures indicate a temperature minimum <108 K, and a temperature inversion maximum >142 K.
