A determination of the cooling time and the speed of the surface currents of HZ Herculis.
Abstract
A simple model has been used to compute the time for an element of the surface of HZ Herculis to cool once it is removed from the illumination of the X-ray source. This time turned out to be on the order of 10 seconds, i.e., extremely short compared with the orbital period. Additionally, estimates of the velocity and extent of currents due to the uneven heating of the stellar surface have been made. The results in orders of magnitude, are 4 km s ' for the velocity and 40 km for the lateral extent. These numbers are too small to cause any likely observable effect.
