Plane turbulent Couette flow with zero net flow
Abstract
This paper examines analytically and experimentally the case of turbulent plane Couette flow with a sufficient adverse pressure gradient to cause zero net flow. This is the limiting case of flow in bearings with small spacing-to-radius ratios and large eccentricities. It is a fairly exact representation of the flow in the pockets of deep pocket hydrostatic bearings. Temporal characteristics and certain turbulence data are presented for this type of flow over a Reynolds number range of 9650 to 27,300.
