Distant galactic structure in PUP : the Ruprecht 44 aggregate.
Abstract
Summary Ruprecht 44 is a concentration of stars lying at the centre of a very young ( 106 years), very distant (6.6 + 0.6 kpc) aggregate, containing numerous OB stars. These stars are uniformiy reddened by EB - V =0.70+0.02. Pre-main sequence evolution is evident for stars of Mv - 1. This object strengthens the suggestion of FitzGerald and Moffat (1974) that a prominent spiral feature lies at a distance of 7 kpc in Puppis. Key words: spiral structure - young aggregate UBV photometry
