A spectroscopic study of the R CrB type star XX Camelopardalis in quiet state.
Abstract
Summary. A quantitative analysis of a R CrB type star XX Cam has been performed by the curve-ofgrowth method using coude-spectrograms (dispersion 8 A/mm, 4000-5000 A) obtained at maximum brightness. No conspicuous Balmer lines of hydrogen have been found. 62 lines of carbon were identified, as well as oxygen lines with excitation potentials up to 11 eV Equivalent widths of 360 lines were measured. Micro- turbulent velocity is 8.9 km/s, damping constant a = 0.001, electron pressure logp = - 2.60 (from Fe I and Fe ii lines only). Relative abundances of Ca, Sc, Ti, V, Cr, Mn and Y turned out to be very close to solar values. Ratio of carbon to iron is 100 times greater in the atmosphere of XX Cam than in the solar atmosphere. Key words: R CrB type stars - carbon-rich stars - curve-of- growth analysis - abundance determination
