FM laboratory measurements on the 12GHz klystron YK 1210 (V42SK)
Abstract
A super high frequency klystron was tested under conditions for FM-TV transmitters at output powers between 1200 and 1650 W. For FM measurements the klystron was tuned to a broadband frequency response. With this tuning scheme a gain of about 35 db was achieved. At saturation level the bandwidth between the -1 db points was about 40 MHz with a gain ripple of about plus or minus 0.2 db. The variation of the group delay was in the expected range of about 20 ns. An AM-Pm conversion coefficient of only less than or equal to 3 deg/db was measured. Besides these absolute data the influence of the varying beam data and harmonics was tested. Attempts were made to minimize the group delay variation.
