Isothermic and adiabatic escape of an ideal gas from a container
Abstract
The time dependence of the pressure in adiabatic and isothermic gas flows expelled from a converging nozzle of uniform cross section is compared. Equations describing the gas parameters are integrated to obtain the time dependence of the pressure in both processes, and the two functions are plotted. The results show that the two curves intersect, indicating that the pressure will initially drop faster during adiabatic flow, equalize, and then drop even faster during isothermic flow.
