The Spheroidal Gravitational Lens
Abstract
The linearized Einstein gravitation theory is used to calculate the bending angle of a light ray as it passes exterior to a static spheroidal mass. The bending angle is then used to calculate general formulae for the intensification, distortion, `and orientation of images seen around such masses. These expressions are then applied to simple models of an E7 and a Sc galaxy. Subject headings: galaxies - gravitation - relativity
