Optical Studies of UHURU Sources.VI. The Identification of the Optical Counterpart of 2u 0115-73= SMC X-1

A study of the stars in and near the error box for SMC X-1 = 2U 0115-73 has revealed that Sanduleak No. 160, a 130 supergiant located on the southeast edge of the Small Magellanic Cloud, shows small light variations which go through a double cycle with a period equal to that of the X-ray binary.
