Absorption lines in the spectrum of the quasar Markarian 132.
Abstract
An integrating television sensor was used to obtain two coude' spectra of the quasar Markarian 132 (Zem = 1.758) with about 0.7 A resolution. The spectra covered the wavelengths 3622-3873 A and 42104466 A. Column densities of 7 x 1013, 3 x 10' , and 4 x 1013 cm-2 have been derived for absorption lines of C iv and Si iv at z = 1.73233 and C iv at z = 1.73084, respectively. The C iv lines show that the absorption must occur in at least two separate clouds with a relative velocity of 160km 1 Subject headings: quasi-stellar sources or objects - redshifts
