Scanner observations of M dwarfs.
Abstract
Scans of many local high- and low-velocity M dwarfs, and 10 Hyades and a Pleiades dwarf, have been obtained on the Spinrad-Taylor system. Both T and (R - 1) are excellent temperature indicators. The data are qualitatively discussed in terms of metal abundance, emission line strengths, and the H-R diagram for the stars of high-weight parallax. Some of the strong-line properties of true subdwarfs like Barnard's star and Yale 1942 are stressed. The operational definition of a unique lower main sequence seems subject to doubt.
