Hydrogen Production Rates of Comet Beunett (1969i) in the First Hall of April 1970
Abstract
Summary. Ly-oc (1216 A) isophote figures of comet Bennett (1969i), observed by OGO-5 between April 1 and 19, 1970 (Bertaux and Blamont, 1970), were used to determine the production rate, outflow velocity and lifetime of hydrogen atoms, for each of the eight observations using the density integral given by Haser (1965). The production rate varies as R `-5 with the heliocentric distance within the error limits of - 1.0 and -2.2. The outflow velocity remains constant within the uncertainties of the data and model with the mean value of 8.2 km s '. The lifetime of the hydrogen atoms is found to be 2.2 x 1065 at a sun-comet distance of 1 a.u. This study could not confirm a variation of the lifetime different from .
