Galactic continuum loops and the diameter-surface brightness relation for supernova remnants.
Abstract
Summary. The linear diameter and average surface brightness at 1 GHz of 5 Galactic continuum loops have been estimated in order to find their positions in the D - diagram for supernova remnants. The loops appear to fit the relation derived by Ilovaisky and Lequeux (1972 a) reasonably well, which confirms the hypothesis that they are supernova remnants of great age ( 106 years). A new D - relation has been computed for two cases. Key words: galactic continuum loops - linear diameter - average surface brightness - supernova remnants
