Finiteamplitude Disturbances in Selfgravitating Media
Abstract
Summary. This paper deals with the evolution of small but finiteamplitude disturbances in a selfgravitating fluid layer of finite thickness. Contrary to the prediction of the linearized theory, the critical wavelength beyond which no smallamplitude motion exists now depends on the initial amplitude of the fluctuations. Nonlinearity slightly enlarges the range of unstable disturbances within the fluid slab. Typical nonlinear features in the flow patterns are observed.
