Lifetime of the 22S12 State of Singly Ionized Helium
Abstract
The natural lifetime of the 2S state of He+ has been measured in a decay-in-flight experiment. The result, τ=2.04+0.81-0.34 msec, is consistent with the theory of two-photon spontaneous emission and determines an upper bound λ<=8×10-5 for the coupling constant of the pseudoscalar "anapole" interaction.
