A New Complete Sample of Quasi-Stellar Radio Sources and the Determination of the Luminosity Function.
Abstract
New spectroscopic and photometric observations are reported for 19 quasi-stellar objects identified with 4C radio sources in a selected region of the sky. These objects, together wfth 12 previously studied 4C quasi-stellar radio sources in the same area of sky, form a sample that is complete in radio and optical properties. The combined data for this sample are used to examine the spatial distribution of the objects and to derive their bivariate radio and optical luminosity function at a distance corresponding to a redshift z = 1.0. The results are compared with those of a similar study by Schmidt of a complete sample of 3CR quasi-stellar sources.
