Photometric standards for the southern hemisphere. II.
Abstract
Three years ago Bok and Bok (1969) published Paper I of the present series. Since then, additional photo- electric observations by Bok and Bok in 1971 and by Miller in 1970 and 1972 have resulted in 12 new stan- dard sequences for the Southern Milky Way from Vela to Norma. New standard stars have been added to the previously published sequences for Selected Area 193, Centaurus (now Centaurus I), Norma I, Norma II, and Norma III, to enlarge and also to extend these sequences to fainter magnitudes. Sequence stars in two of Loden's fields in Vela and in one field of Carina have been observed, and new stars have been added to the published lists, so that these sequences could be extended to fainter magnitudes. In addition to stars in two new sequences in the Southern Coalsack we observed six stars of Rodgers' Coalsack sequence to insure a homogeneous coverage of this area. We find no large systematic differences between our values and those of Rodgers. The present paper also includes a minor adjustment to the U - B colors for some of the standard sequence stars that are listed in Paper I. We find that the adjustment is necessary to bring the earlier U-B colors into better agreement with our more recently derived values. Identification charts for 20 sequence fields are included in the present paper.
