The Chandierian Wobble from 1900 to 1970
Abstract
The properties of the chandlerian wobble were obtained from the study of individual series of latitudes measured in 20 stations. The main conclusions are 1) rapid changes in semi-amplitude, of the order of 0.1 within 1-2 years, occurred several times; between these changes the amplitude is stable or slowly variable; 2) the period is 1.193 year; the phase computed with this period is usually constant and is not affected by the amplitude variations; however a unique rapid variation of the phase appeared in 1925.5 and was followed by a damping in phase; 3) no evidence was found for a double chandlerian period, nor for a correlation between period and amplitude.
