The Secular Variations in the `Restricted' Problem and the Stability of the Circular Orbits
Abstract
Summary. In this paper we discuss the stability of the circular orbits in the restricted problem, in the case of the secular variations, in relation with the Delaunay variable H, the ratio of the semimajor axes cc and the order of the secular part of the expansion of the disturbing function. For a given cc there exists a value i* such that the circular orbits are stable or unstable according as i < or > i*. The limiting value of i* depends on the order of the secular part of the expansion of the disturbing function. Key words: secular variations stability restricted problem
