omicron Velorum, a new Beta Canis Majoris star.
Abstract
Photoelectric and spectrographic observations reveal that 0 Vel is a variable star of the CMa type with its brightness changing by 0mO.3 and its RV by 9 km/s in a period of 3h10m. There is an "outflow" of H of 3 km/s with respect to Si H and Mg ii and of S km/s with respect to He L The large scatter around the mean RV-curve leaves a Buspicion that either the RV-curve is unstable, or that there are beats in the pulsation or that orbital motion is involved. The projected rotational velocity is km/s. A Van Hoof effect cannot be discerned from our material.
