The spectrum of the type I supernova of 1954 in NGC 4214.
Abstract
Thtensity minima in the spectrum of SN 4214 are interpreted as blueshifted He 1 absorption lines, as originally suggested by McLaughlin. The light curve and spectral evolution during observed phases were not consistent with a simple model of an expanding photo sphere in which lines and continuum were formed, nor was the apparent temperature high enough to account for excitation of He 1 lines. The observed light curve and continuous energy distribution may have been influenced by solid particle condensation. Key words: supernovae
