On the Circular Polarization of Some Peculiar Objects
Abstract
Circular polarization of several peculiar objects (in particular, X-ray sources) has been measured with the stellar magnetograph of the 104-inch Crimean reflecting telescope. Circular polarization greater than or equal to 1 percent is suspected in the nuclei of the Seyfert galaxies NGC 4151 and NGC 1068, and in the quasar SC 273. Rapid variations of the amount and sense of circular polarization are observed in the X-ray source Sco X-1 with time scales of the order of 30 minutes. An appreciable effect is also detected in the nucleus of the planetary nebula +3003639.
