A Computer Solution of the Light Curves of S CANCRI
Abstract
A solution of the S Cnc light curves by Huffer and Collins has been completed with Kopal's iterative method including a differential correction term for the limb-darkening coefficient of the occulted star. The method applies to total eclipses (occultation) or annular eclipses. The results have been checked by a separate program of general differential corrections applied directly to the system parameters. The resulting values of z,, derived from UB V observations, are in serious disagreement with theoretical values due to Grygar. Separate tests of the metod of solution with synthetic data show that values of x, can be determined with acceptable accuracy, given the number and apparent precision of observations entering the solution. There are indications of systematic errors in the observations which may invalidate the calculated limb-darkening coefficients.
