Secular Stability. II. an Analytic Discussion of the Onset of Complex Roots
Abstract
The secular spectrum, and more specifically the occurrence of complex roots in this spectrum, has been investigated by means of a perturbation teclniique. It is found that a dimensioniess parameter p defined in Eq. (56) controls the onset of complex eigenvalues, and it is the coefficient of radiative heat transport which plays the dominant role in this phenomenon. Key words: stellar evolution - secular stabfflty - complex eigenvalues
