The dynamical structure of the h and chi Per association.
Abstract
New radial velocities for the red supergiants surrounding h and Per have been obtained from spectrograms at a dispersion of 16 A/mm. These velocities together with those obtained by others for additional red and blue supergiants in the region indicate the presence of a certain velocity pattern in the association. The most negative velocities are found in a region centered about 0.5 degrees north of Per, and those most positive in the outermost region. A mean velocity difference of 4.7 km/s is found between Schild's inner and outer groups. The question of membership of dubious members is discussed on basis of radial velocities. One star, HD 17306, is found to vary in radial velocity, possibly because of binary motion. Key words: h and Per - supergiants - radial velocity
