The phenomenology of the night airglow is reviewed with particular emphasis on the work of recent years. The major topics discussed are the spectrum; latitudinal dependency; diurnal variation; correlations in time and space; the effects of magnetic activity and of the sunspot cycle and solar activity; and conjugacy and the airglow. A number of other topics are also discussed briefly.
