a Sensitive Method for the Determination of Open Ocean Phytoplankton Phycoerythrin Pigments by FLUORESCENCE1
Abstract
The concentration of the phycoerythrin pigments is measured in 0.1 m phosphate buffer, pH 6.0–7.0, using a sensitive fluorometer. Ten units on our fluorometer are equal to 0.002 OD 1‑cm cell at 540 nm. The maximum variation after extraction is less than 5%. The method is highly suitable for routine analysis at sea or in the laboratory.
