Cohesive Energy and Compressibility of Body-Centered Cubic Sodium
Abstract
The cohesive energy and compressibility of metallic sodium in the body-centered cubic phase are calculated using a Hellmann-type model potential for the ion-electron interaction. The calculation is similar to one recently proposed by Saxena et al. but differs in the determination of the equilibrium spacing by minimizing the total energy per electron. The resulting compressibility and cohesive energy are compared against the results of Saxena et al.
