Coarse analysis of the helium weak B star Iota Ori B.
Abstract
An abundance analysis of the helium weak star Ori B is undertaken by means of a relative curve of growth analysis. The standard star is the B2V star HD 35912. Both stars have nearly identical Hy profiles and Si n/Si rn ionization equilibria. Equivalent width measures in both stars reveal the following anomalies in Ori B: He deficient by more than a factor ten; 0 slightly deficient; P and Ga are enormously enhanced. The elements C, N, Mg, Al, Si, S and Fe are roughly normal in Ori B. It is not possible to explain the anomalies in this helium weak star by nuclear processes and two other suggestions are offered. Key words: abundances - helium weak stars - peculiar A stars
