Evolution with mass exchange of case C for a binary system of total mass 7 M sun.
Abstract
A binary system with a primary of 5 M0, a mass ratio of 0.4, and a separation of 302 Re is followed through mass exchange which starts after exhaustion of central helium burning (case C). The final system contains a white dwarf of 1 Me and a main sequence star of 6 Me, separated by 840 Re; the period is 2.8 years. A few observed case-C systems are briefly discussed.
