The spectrum of HD 200775, the illuminating star of NGC 7023, has been investigated at the Asiago Astrophysical Observatory. Wavelengths and equivalent widths of the observed absorption lines have been measured. The radial velocities are variable with amplitude up to 45 km/sec for the hydrogen lines. The mean radial velocity from the He I lines is -2 km/sec. Some weak emission lines of [FeII] have been identified. In the infrared the spectrum displays emission lines of H (Paschen series), O I (lambda 8446 is strong) and CaII. The spectral type is B3 III-IVe. The distance is about 440 pc.
