A Radio Study of the H II Region Orion B
Abstract
Observations of continuum emission of the nebula and of 94a hydrogen recombination lines (7.792871 GHz) at twenty~one points, spaced at half-beamwidth intervals (O?030), give the distribution of mean electron temperature, emission measure, radial velocity, and dispersion of radial velocity over the nebula. The electron temperature ranges from 60000 to 8500° K, but its distribution is asymmetric with respect to the center of the radio map. The nebula appears to rotate with a period of 106 years about an axis running from northeast to southwest, and to expand (or contract) radially at approximately 6 km sec' Such an expansion implies an age of 106 years. The exciting star must be other than ~ On. This nebula is compared with the Orion Nebula (NGC 1976)
