Zwickvls Corona Borealis Cluster Counts
Abstract
A method for making allowance for an inhomogeneous background in galaxy-cluster counts is suggested and applied to a particular cluster. Zwicky's counts of galaxies within rings centered on the Corona Borealis Cluster indicate the presence of 225 cluster members within a radius of about 30' to the limit of the 18-inch Schmidt telescope (mvg 19.2), and of 850 members within a radius of about 50' to the 48-inch Schmidt limit ( .4). There is a pronounced tendency for the brighter members to concentrate toward the cluster center.
